The Town & Country Touring is available standard with the 3.8-liter V6 that is seen throughout the rest of the Dodge and Chrysler lineup. Finally, overhead panels running through the center of the roof house a dual screen DVD center seat monitor system, in addition to the third row 9-inch flip down screen.Īs much as we wished higher quality materials were utilized in the interior of the Chrysler Town & Country Touring, we were heartened by the fact that a few pieces we remembered as being sharp and possibly abrasive have been revised since our last outing. When the rear seats were in the upright position, storage areas in the floor revealed themselves. We still like the Swivel and Go seating in the center row that allows occupants to spin and face the back seat passengers for games or face to face meals using the stow in the floor table. The Touring was not equipped with navigation despite the touch screen, however. The head unit, which was operated via the 6.5-inch touch screen, housed the Bluetooth operations and also kept controls for the 30-gig hard drive capable of storing 6,700 songs. All the expected controls were there, including automatic climate controls, an in-dash DVD player, and a Sirius/AM/FM/MP3 audio system with nine speakers. Faux wood trim accented the dashboard along with a brushed aluminum look panel covering the center stack. The lack of the telescoping function was easily overcome by the inclusion of push button adjustable accelerator and brake pedals below. We don't think many Corinthians died for their art here.Ī non-telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel pivoted on axis to offer height adjustments for all drivers. Not as high-zoot as the Town & Country Limited we tested over two years ago, it relied on a seemingly lesser grade of leather trimming than that found in the Touring's more luxed-out sibling. With a boatload of innovations inside, it is disappointing to realize that this is also the place where the T&C falls short. We'll take them at their word since the Leftlane Wind Tunnel facility is currently being refurbished (along with Leftlane Tower). Chrysler claims best in class aero figures for the Town & Country. Speaking of panels, the gaps between panels were uniform and well-fitted throughout. Privacy glass breaks up the large expanse of side panels and helps to define the T&C's waist. It borrows styling cues from the Chrysler 300C, with headlights and grille pieces similar to that iconic four-door sedan - but that's where the style ends. Perhaps that is the whole point of the conservative styling behind the T&C. Verging on boring, it tries hard to not offend and it generally doesn't. Ultra conservative on the outside, it would have to be one of the most understated vehicles in the marketplace today. Finally, as part of the security group options package, blind spot detection sensors are coupled with cross path vehicle detection, which comes in handy when packing from parking slots. The 4.0-liter V6 offers more power than most others in the minivan segment, even though you'd be hard pressed to find much sporty about this offering. But we still consider the swivel and stow seats (and the under-floor stowed table) to be innovative, if not unique to the segment. Since the Town & Country was redone a few years back, not much has changed. Many buyers have jumped shipped to arguably less un-sexy but also less utilitarian crossovers like the Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Flex and Honda Pilot. The Touring we sampled is the mid-level offering between the base LX model and the upmarket Limited.ĭon't forget that the Dodge Caravan and Volkswagen Routan are basically the same vehicle as the Town & Country.Ĭompetitors include the Honda Odyssey, Kia Sedona and Toyota Sienna in addition to the Caravan and Routan. Add that, a table for the kids, and an overhead DVD player, and you have the makings of a serious cross-country hauler. A traditional two-box shape, it has evolved from a vehicle with a back hatch and one sliding door to one with swivel and stowing seats that disappear into built-in floor storage areas as well as the addition of a left side sliding door. The Chrysler Town & Country is a seven-passenger minivan in a segment that it created. At least that's what Chrysler touts in the latest commercials. At a point where Chrysler is positively starved for new product, however, the pentastar continues to show it can still build a decent and feature-laden minivan with the best of them - but that's what we would expect from the company that invented the segment.ĭespite tough competition from Toyota and especially Honda, Chrysler keeps cranking out minivans for soccer moms and dads everywhere.Ī playground on wheels. Within the current recession, there is a minivan recession as well. $6.90 per square foot Installing It Right Photo by K. Stiffer and almost 25 percent lighter than a solid board. As heavy as a solid board but with only one usable side. Can be face-fastened or edge-fastened and has two usable sides. Grooves along both sides accept the hidden fasteners specified by the manufacturer. The profile you pick determines how your deck will be fastened down, which affects its look (do you want to see screw heads or not?) the installation speed and how much you'll pay for the fasteners (see slides 19-22).ġ. Types of DeckingĬomposites are made in a range of profiles to make boards lighter, easier to install, or both. Lighter-colored and deeper-grooved boards are more barefoot-friendly.ĭoesn't really look like wood: Some boards do a better job at mimicking wood than others, but a close look or touch gives them away. Hot underfoot: Like dark hardwoods, dark composites heat up as they bake in the sun. And the hardwood in many mixes can create uneven brownish tannin stains early on when wet, but they typically disappear over time. Prone to staining: The wood fibers are easily stained by food and grease. Light scratches can't be sanded out but do blend in over time. High-end composites run about the same as ipe ( ee-PAY), a hardwood decking harvested from tropical rain forests.Įasily scuffed: Moving furniture, frisky dogs, and gritty shoes will abrade new composites. High initial cost: Low-end composites are priced about 30 percent higher than pressure-treated pine. High recycled content: Every 10 square feet contains nearly 3,000 recycled plastic shopping bags and 1,100 one-gallon milk jugs. Longer boards: Up to 20 feet, which means fewer end joints. (Left to its own devices, wood inexorably turns gray.) Minimal fading: All composites turn a slightly lighter shade after the first two or three months in the sun, then the fading stops. Long life: Composites don't rot or attract termites, they can't warp or check, and you can go barefoot without fear of splinters. With the money you save by not using these coatings and cleaning materials, you can recoup the higher cost of composites in about five years. Reduced maintenance: Forget about having to bleach and stain wood every other year. Pros & Cons of Composite Deckingīefore you make a commitment, weigh the pros and cons of composites. Most composites meet California's strict Wildland-Urban Interface Building Code. Yes, but at a much higher temperature than wood. A simple scrubbing with soapy water and a soft bristle brush is usually all that's needed.Įverything you need to finish a deck-fascia boards, railings, balusters, treads, and posts-is made in matching colors using the same composite material. Fading, scratches, and stains usually aren't covered. Most manufacturers offer either a 25-year or limited-lifetime warranty on structural integrity some warranties are transferable from one homeowner to another. Run-of-the-mill boards start at $4 per square foot, while the premium products that closely resemble tropical wood run up to $7.20 per square foot. Photo by Suzie Gibbons/Gap Photos/Getty Images What Is a Composite Decking Board Made Of? Here’s a detailed review about composite decking, including how to choose the best boards, comparing costs, as well as installing and cleaning them. Once in place, they just do their job and don't need much more than an annual wash-down, leaving you plenty of time to work on your nap. The fact that composites don't feel or look like real wood is beside the point. That kind of popularity represents a big boost for the environment, too, because most composites are made from waste: sawdust, used plastic milk jugs, and shopping bags. A decade later, as companies began to offer new products that looked like fresh-cut cedar and Brazilian walnut but never turned gray, sales of composites took off. When the less demanding plastic-composite decking appeared on the scene in the 1990s, homeowners happily adopted it, despite the higher price and limited color selection (gray). As idyllic as your backyard deck could be, maintaining that elevated expanse of lumber can be a downright chore. Imagine, for instance, that you want to prepare two versions of an academic paper with two different citation forms. One advantage to Zotero is that it makes single-sourcing of the same bibliographic material easy. Only take this step when the document is finished. Unlink Citations: Permanently disconnect bibliographic information in the file from Zotero. Refresh: Use when the information and metadata of an item in Zotero has changed since you added the item to a document.Select this icon to sync if you are not seeing items you expect to see. Document Preferences: The same dialog as Edit | Preferences in Zotero itself, including the citation style. The information will differ according to the type of item, and typically there will be many details left blank – which is fine so long as enough information is given to create a citation according to the selected format.įigure 8: A bibliographic entry created by Zotero. Notes can be added to the items or details, and tags can be added to details to help with searches. The contents of each pane can be edited from the File menu, or by right-clicking in the pane. In the middle, items or sources for the selected collection display, and, in the right-hand pane, details of the selected item. On the left is a list of collections or projects. The Zotero window is divided into three panes (Figure 2). Probably, you will want to select the Sync automatically and Sync full-content form boxes as well (Figure 1).Īll citations are entered in Zotero. You will receive an email with instructions to confirm your account. Select Edit | Preferences | Sync and enter a user name and password. Working in Zoteroīefore you can use Zotero, you need to create an account. If you want to add sources from the Internet, you must also download the Firefox connector for Chrome or Firefox and install it as an add-on. The next time you restart LibreOffice, a series of five icons will be displayed in the upper left of the toolbar for using Zotero. To work with Zotero and LibreOffice, users must have Java installed, then install Zotero itself, and download the LibreOffice extension and install it using Tools | Extension Manager | Add. A stand-along Java application maintained by the Center for History and New Media at George Mason University, Zotero not only manages reference sources, but pulls them directly from the web and formats them in every major citation style. Add the fact that a single database is used for all files – an absurdity in these memory-rich days – and the neglect of the Bibliography Database is completely understandable.įortunately, Zotero is available to fill the gap. Even more confusing, the examples give an arbitrary name, when to work with the citation insertion tool in Insert | Table of Contents and Index | Insert Bibliography Entry, it should in a standard form, such as (Byfield: 2016) for the MLA format. That robust bug is that the Citation Format in the database table is called the Short Name in the input fields. Instead, those who need bibliographies or citations rely on other software such as Zotero, which can be integrated into LibreOffice with an extension. You can tell how few people use LibreOffice’s Bibliography Database by the fact that a bug that would take 10 minutes to fix has survived since 2002. Experiment with your neighbour by turning your various gadgets on and off to see if one is affecting your Wi-Fi signal. Other culprits include cordless phones, wireless games consoles and controllers, baby alarms, microwave ovens and garage door openers. Otherwise there is a long list of wireless gadgets that can interfere with Wi-Fi signals, with the worst usually being the "AV senders" sometimes used to drive second TV sets. Wi-Fi offers a number of different channels, so check with your neighbour to make sure you are not using the same ones. JS: It sounds as though something is swamping the signals, but I have no idea what. So he said "Well, I'll go along with you" and he did. "So one day his friends, who were about to leave for Africa on a honeymoon, said, "Well, why don't you come along with us?" And, uh, that sounds really peculiar but they were getting married for something like the third time themselves. He tried pig ranching, he figured that was pretty earthy, and, uh, decided that he didn't like pigs either. And so he tried to be earthy and get his hands into the soil. And he was very guilty about his wealth-because it was inherited. He'd been married twice and was contemplating a third marriage and wasn't really sure that he liked her very much. He was a multi-millionaire and, uh, that was a good start, I suppose. Now, Henderson, the character in the book-is, was, one of those people who was born with everything going for them, at least it looked that way on paper. "A short time ago, a friend gave me a book called Henderson the Rain King and I started to read it but I never got finished I got halfway through and sort of left the whole plot up in the air, literally, and got inspired to write the next song. There’s enchantment and dis-enchantment, what we’re taught to believe things are and what they really are." In late 1967, she introduced the song like this: But in this song there are only two sides to things… there’s reality and I guess what you might call fantasy. In most cases there are both sides to things and in a lot of cases there are more than just both. "This is a song that talks about sides to things. Interestingly, she gave the same introduction - word for word - on Octoat the Second Fret in Philadelphia: Joni introduces the song this way at the White Swan in Leicester, England on September 16, 1967. And so I got this idea 'from both sides now.' There are a lot of sides to everything, and so the song is called "From Both Sides, Now." I was reading a book, and I haven't finished it yet, called "Henderson the Rain King." And there's a line in it that I especially got hung up on that was about when he was flying to Africa and searching for something, he said that in an age when people could look up and down at clouds, they shouldn't be afraid to die. It - I should tell people a little bit about it. What have we got here? "Night in the City," "Circle Game" - oh, "From Both Sides, Now." I'm really glad somebody requested that, because that's a very new song, and I've been driving everybody crazy by playing it twice and three times a night. Gene: Want to do some of the requested songs? It is mainly an outdoor GPS watch but it offers some amazing features that will be useful for any fishing enthusiast. Using the Suunto Traverse Alpha is like having an assistant that feeds you with information that’s vital to your fishing trips. The Suunto Traverse Alpha is one my favorite watches to use to brave the great outdoors. Overall, this is a great outdoor timepiece and is a good place to start your search for the best tide watch. I would have preferred atomic timekeeping. It utilizes the Japanese Quartz movement which is rather disappointing. Of course, the watch features a moon phase (8 segments) and a tide graph (6 segments) – these are the features that you need for the best fishing experience. The watch is water-resistant to 660 ft or 200 m. The enlarged buttons are a nice touch since it makes the watch a lot easier to use. However, the watch is surprisingly lightweight and is actually comfortable even after wearing it for hours. Thus, this watch will likely look bigger on smaller wrists. The 50mm case is made from the standard G-Shock resin which is a bit large even for G-Shock standards.
